What Is Roof Flashing?

Roof flashing is a thin metal barrier installed at roof transitions, penetrations, and vulnerable areas to prevent water from entering your roofing system.

Flashing directs water away from critical areas of the roof, including:

• Chimneys
• Roof-to-wall transitions
• Pipe penetrations
• Skylights
• Dormers
• Valleys
• Roof edges

Without properly installed flashing, water can slowly seep beneath shingles and into the roof decking, insulation, and interior structure of the home.
